Notes
- The project expended significant effort to locate
an ideal location for the combined facilities, choosing
up to 7 acres of the Paradise Valley Community College
property between 56th and 60th Streets on the south
side of Carefree Highway, in the City of Scottsdale.
This excellent central location has good highway
access. This location is shown on the map at the
top of the page.
- The YMCA building (Phase I), is planned as a
30,000 square foot building. An aquatic
center will be a major element which will include
an indoor/outdoor teaching and recreational pool
with facilities for therapeutic and rehabilitative
use. A wellness/fitness center with state of the
art equipment and programs will promote healthy
lifestyles. An adult multipurpose room will provide
space for classes in aerobics, yoga and other activities.
Space for children’s programs will be accommodated
in a children’s gym and activity area. An area for
teens will be designated for healthy living programs,
a computer lab, and recreational opportunities.
The lobby area will be enhanced by a rock climbing
wall, snack bar and reception area. At a later date
Phase II will consist of a gymnasium and an outdoor
running track. The location of this space
is shown on the site plan above.
- The Community Center is planned as a 10,000 square
foot building to provide a variety of meeting spaces for diverse
not-for-profit community groups as they work to
support the Desert Foothills community. It will
contain a spacious comfortable living
room/library facility where our senior residents
can meet for conversations, bridge, chess, or
just to relax. There will be a large dividable
multi-purpose room that will accommodate 200
people in banquet seating, and 350 in
classroom-style seating. The multi-purpose room
will be equipped with a state-of-the-art sound
system and projection capabilities, and will be
adjacent to a catering/banquet kitchen. There
will be two other meeting rooms available for
groups of 15-20 in a conference-table-style
setting. The location of this space is shown on
the site plan above.
- On the same mini-campus and linked to the Community
Center will be the education facility of 10,000
square feet (planned) owned by the Maricopa County Community
College District and utilized by Paradise Valley
Community College. It will have five classrooms,
a computer laboratory, and the appropriate administrative
and support space. It will have some common facilities
with the Community Center and will share space on
occasion. The location of this space is
shown on the site plan above.
